Introduction to Saints of Firnus

Here is where you can find world lore and goodies about the setting of Firnus!

This world has been in development for almost a decade with help from my wonderful friends who play characters in TTRPG campaigns within the world. While we have played using systems like Dungeons and Dragons (5e) and Zweihander, these frameworks are much more magically charged than the reality of my setting (or at least, the version I write) so go forward with the understanding that Firnus doesn't follow the same rules as those games.

As for the title, while the world is named Firnus, I use the sub-title 'Saints of Firnus.'

These saints are mythical individuals within the world lore, those who are worshipped for the core values they upheld, or lauded in stories and song.

For those new to Firnus, here's some key points:

  • All people of this world are based on real-world animals, some being hybrids of multiple. Most have a name that aligns with a latin title of a taxon, but most have a different name that aligns with specific cultures.
  • As a fantasy setting I'm contactually obliged to drop some sub-genres. Firnus swings like a pendulum between Magical Realism and Sword & Sorcery.
  • I like to explore real-world concerns in my setting, so I'd advise those looking for more of a 'cozy cute animals' vibe to be wary. While I really enjoy Redwall and include many themes and the joy presented in those books, I was inspired by Jaques' exploration of the darker themes to get into my own world-building.
